Q:
In 1978 I was a free agent with the Seahawks. Obviously I did not make the cut, but I did last the first couple weeks. I'm still VERY interested in the team and would appreciate any info. you might have from '78 that I could use to see just how many of my fellow "rookies" actually did make it through the Big Leagues.
A:
DB Keith Simpson, LB Keith Butler, T Louis Bullard, and DB John Harris were the only rookies drafted in '78 to make the Hawks' roster. Simpson (1978-85, 108 games played), Butler (78-87, 146 games), and Harris (78-85, 119 games) had many great seasons with the Seahawks. Some other rookies who made at least the '78 Seahawks roster were G Charlie Aiu, DE-DT Bill Cooke, RB Rufus Crawford, DE-DT Bill Gregory, CB Kerry Justin, DE-DT Dave Kraayeveld, TE Brian Peets, and DE Ernie Price.
Q:There was a guy that was there when I was named Louis Bullard. Did he ever make the team?
A:The Seahawks drafted Louis Bullard out of Jackson State in the fifth round of the 1978 draft. He made the team and played in a total of 36 games between 1978 and 1980. He was a starter for two games in 1979 and for 13 more in 1980. I'm not sure what happened to him after that, but Ron Essink took over his job at left tackle. I'm guessing that he was probably injured seriously enough to force him to retire.
